Horizon: A line that doesn’t exist
A performance of contemporary African dance
Friday December 3, 2010 at 7pm – Seattle Art Museum
Saturday December 4, 2010 at 3pm – Seattle Art Museum
Gansango Music & Dance presents Horizon, a performance of contemporary African dance that explores cultural confrontation and assimilation. Gansango’s international dancers, many of whom immigrated from Africa to the United States or Europe as adults, use movement to interpret the shades of joy and frustration that immigrants experience every day. The performers explore notions of how we define home, find identity and place in a foreign land, and shift our values over time. Dance provides a channel for expressing these experiences, fusing two worlds that were once separated by an invisible line between old and new, origin and destination, self and other. Horizon is creative expression of the immigrant experience: the meeting of two worlds, no longer defined by that elusive line.
